“The Michelin Guide has announced its long-awaited list of recommended hotels around the world with 107 hotels from Greece, giving pride of place to a Greek hotel with a perfect score of 20, located in an historic part of the Greek hinterland.

This is the Tainaron Blue Retreat near the village of Oitylo, in Mani, Peloponnese, a centuries-old stone watchtower perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. It has been restored to modern luxury standards, while the inimitable rustic charm of its original structure has been retained.

The Michelin Guide, a benchmark in world gastronomy, has made public a list of hotels selected by Tablet Hotels, setting the same high standards for hotels as those set for restaurants.

107 hotels from Greece were chosen, the lion’s share being located on the islands of Santorini and Mykonos. Many entries are from Athens, and a few are from Crete, the Dodecanese and the Ionian Islands, while there are two prominent listings from Epirus.

The guide sets a new standard for hotels, with the object of putting its list of hotels on an equal footing with its restaurant listings, which bring not only worldwide acclaim and prestige, but also substantial numbers of bookings.

The whole endeavour was completed 3 years after the acquisition of Tablet Hotels, a hotel rating platform and trusted online booking search engine.

To be on the Michelin Guide list, hotels need to meet criteria of outstanding style, service, and personality. Somewhere where visitors can enjoy memorable experiences, regardless of price.

Tablet’s process may differ from the anonymous restaurant inspections of the Michelin Guide, but it is no less effective. Experts review the hotels through a variety of methods, apart from on-site inspections, including undercover inspectors and recommendations from a network of travel industry veterans”.
